The Black Lives Matter movement of 2020 really made me think about my identity - who I am and my ancestors who came before me. I am African however, I have not been back to Ghana since I was 5 years old when my family immigrated to the UK. More recently, I've felt guilty for not having a better connection with my place of birth. I never met my grandparents before they passed and I don't remember my father ever talking about his father so If I could imagine him, this would be it.
Using the process of restricting myself to just a few shapes, I’ve created some digital abstract art pieces. This series of work was born during the Covid lockdown restrictions. I’ve been struggling for space at home to paint, I usually paint in my kitchen or living room but with my children at home during lockdown and again during quarantine episodes, it’s been increasingly difficult and demotivating for me work with paints. This has pushed me to work digitally.
